Job Description
Role : Senior Legal Counsel
Location : Bangalore
Qualification : LLB
Experience : 6 to 7 years
Job Description :
• Oversee implementation of corporate governance actions in line with relevant laws and regulations.
• Ensure timely and accurate performance of regulatory and legislative obligations.
• Supervise maintenance of company registers and legal documentation.
• Interacting with the compliance function.
Legal Advisory & Business Support
• Provide senior-level legal support to business units across APAC, including Japan-based and India-focused operations.
• Advise on complex legal matters including M&A, finance transactions, and intellectual property.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, NDAs, and strategic agreements.
• Taking conduct of significant Indian based legal matters.
• Interpreting, negotiating and closing out complex deals for the Rail Sector Business Unit in India.
• Interpreting and guiding senior management in relation to regulatory and legislative requirements.
• Taking conduct of significant arbitrations and litigations.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including Interfacing with senior management of Indian Hitachi Rail entity.
• Coordinate and instruct external legal counsel to ensure quality and cost-effective legal services.
Risk Management & Strategy
• Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Support strategic planning and decision-making with legal insights.
Performance Criteria
• Timely compliance with legal and regulatory deadlines.
• High quality and accuracy of legal outputs.
• Effective stakeholder engagement and internal client satisfaction.
Education/Qualifications and Skill Sets Preferred:
• Law degree (LLB or JD) and admission to practice in relevant jurisdictions. Additional CS qualification and experience will be valuable too.
• Minimum 8-10 years PQE, with a mix of private practice and in-house experience, preferably with experience at an international industrial company.
• Proven track record in corporate law, regulatory compliance, and contract negotiation.
• Experience working across APAC jurisdictions and in a multinational industrial company is highly desirable.
• Knowledge and experience gained in rail, oil & gas, power, aero, or the automotive industry sectors would be highly beneficial
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and communication ability to work in a culturally diverse organization and with multiple key stakeholders.
